Brian Dettman

Brian Dettman, a Louisville injury lawyer, received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the Johns Hopkins University – Baltimore in 2002. While at university Brian was a member of the Deans List and worked in Washington D.C as an intern for a Presidential Candidate. He also studied abroad in Queensland, Australia and through Semester at Sea.

Mr. Dettman then attended Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida. Stetson at the time had the number one ranked trial advocacy program in the country. At Stetson Brian was a member of the Dean’s List and Law Review. He interned for a Federal Judge and at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in Tampa, Florida. After his first year, Brian clerked at a fourteen-partner personal injury law firm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The firm specialized in catastrophic injury cases and Brian authored numerous briefs and memoranda concerning injury cases. Almost immediately Brian was given a caseload and instructed to try cases on behalf of the State of Florida. His first year was spent in the misdemeanor division, mostly trying driving under the influence cases. Brian also tried battery, driving under a suspended license, prostitution, and theft cases. After his first year, Brian was moved to the Juvenile Division and practiced felony prosecution. Six months later he was moved to the Felony Division and given an active caseload.

Brian then married a local reporter who received a job offer in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2012 he moved to the Commonwealth and began practicing personal injury cases at a local personal injury law firm. Brian handled car crashes, slip and fall, wrongful death, and motorcycle cases. Many of his clients were catastrophically injured and benefited from Brian’s years of courtroom experience.

Brian then opened Dettman Law in 2013 to further assist injured persons. Brian takes cases big and small and treats each personal injury case individually. His team has over 60 years of personal injury experience. The Louisville-based firm has only assisted the victims of car crashes, truck crashes, motorcycle crash, dog bite, medical malpractice, traumatic brain injury, slip and fall, and other injury cases. During his time at Dettman Law, Brian has several courthouse victories including the largest dog bite pain and suffering verdict in Kentucky. Brian has tried more civil cases than the vast majority of lawyers and continues to litigate injury cases all over Kentucky. He has tried to verdict car crash, slip and fall, and pedestrian crash cases. Brian also has numerous seven figure resolutions for clients during pre-litigation and litigation. These include traumatic brain injury, spinal injury, fracture, and child injury cases.

Brian is active in the legal community where he mentors students at the University of Louisville School of Law. He is the Tort and Insurance Law Section Chair of the Louisville Bar Association. Brian also volunteers his time to judge local trial competitions.
