Lance is a native of Colorado and received both his undergraduate degree (magna cum laude) and his law degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He then served as Deputy District Attorney in El Paso County (Colorado Springs), where he learned trial law on a daily basis in the courtroom. Lance is a past president (1988-1989) of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, the state-wide professional association of Colorado lawyers who practice trial law. After service as President of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association from 1988-1989, Lance was elected to represent Colorado as a member of the Board of Governors of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America for six (6) years. In 2001, Lance was selected as fellow to the International Society of Barristers. He is currently on the Board of Governors of that prestigious legal society.
Lance was also selected to the prestigious (less than 1% of all attorneys belong) Litigation Counsel of America.
